Preventer Wind: Crisis in the Forest of Silence and The Eight Kings’ Final Judgment
The canopy above was a tangled web of obsidian limbs, weaving a ceiling so dense that not even a stray glimmer of starlight could pierce the gloom. The air didn't just feel cold; it felt heavy, like wet wool pressing against the lungs.
"I’ve never seen a place as dark as this before," Jasmine whispered, her hand instinctively resting on the hilt of her dagger. "That’s why they call it the Dark. There’s a guardian here that even the trees fear."
Beside her, King Leif held his torch high, though the flame seemed to shrink, cowed by the oppressive atmosphere of the Forest of Silence. Behind them followed a motley crew of legends and wanderers, their footsteps muffled by centuries of rotted leaves.
The Fellowship of the Shadow
The group moved in a cautious file, each man lost in the gravity of Jasmine's warning:
Spike the Space Cowboy: His thumb flicked his lighter restlessly, the tiny flame reflecting in his tired eyes.
Icky of Team Kagerasmaru: His usual bravado was replaced by a sharp, predatory stillness.
Zechs Marquis: The tall, masked figure moved with a knightly grace, his hand never straying from his blade.
Vicious: The most silent of them all, a cold presence that seemed to blend into the shadows themselves.
"When angels fall out of heaven, they become devils. Isn’t that right, Spike?" Jasmine’s voice drifted back, thin and ethereal.
Spike exhaled a plume of smoke that refused to rise, hanging stagnant in the air. "Just a bad dream I never wake up from, Princess," he muttered, his voice gravelly.
The Law of the Regalia
As they pushed deeper into a thicket where not even the birds dared to fly, the trees began to take on twisted, agonized shapes. Leif stopped at a clearing where eight distinct, narrow paths diverged into the blackness.
"An evil dwells here," Leif stated, his voice echoing with the weight of his crown. "An old and wicked evil. We are standing at the junction of the Eight Roads."
He gestured to the stone pillars marking each trailhead. On each pillar was carved a sigil of ancient power—the Regalia.
"Eight roads, and eight kings who rule them," Jasmine explained, her eyes darting toward the shifting shadows of the guardian. "Many warriors follow these roads, driven by the hunger for power. But the law of this land is absolute: Only one can be King."
"And how do they know who won?" Icky asked, his grip tightening on his weapon.
"A man is just a man with a sword until the forest chooses," Zechs Marquis answered, his voice muffled by his mask. "It is only when he acquires his Regalia that a King is recognized. Until then, we are all just ghosts walking through the Dark."
Vicious stepped forward, his silver hair catching the dying light of Leif's torch. He looked down the darkest of the eight paths, where the silence was so absolute it hummed in the ears. He didn't wait for an invitation.
In the Forest of Silence, words were a liability, and the crown was a death sentence. As the group split to face their respective roads, the "Dark" seemed to exhale, waiting to see which of them would emerge as a King—and which would remain a fallen angel in the dirt.
