Legend of the Emerald Shroud: Phantom Isles of the North Star

At the absolute nadir of the cosmos, where the stars fade into a bruised purple haze and gravity feels like a heavy blanket, lies the Wasteland. It is a place of beautiful contradictions—a fairytale built on junk, a utopia for fools who believe that "nothing" is better than "nowhere."
In the center of this dust-choked dream sits a town overrun with a rhythmic, casual violence. Here, the air tastes of ozone and old iron.
The Rider and the Seeker
From the shimmering heat haze of the salt flats, a rhythmic clank-hiss announced the arrival of a titan. Von rode atop a suit of mighty armor, a rusted yet regal exoskeleton that hissed steam with every stride. His eyes were fixed on the horizon, but his heart was anchored in the past. He was a man who only looked back, his path paved with the wreckage of what used to be.
Across the town square, weaving through the brawling mercenaries, was Rika. Unlike Von, Rika moved with the frantic energy of the future. She was searching for her kidnapped brother, her eyes scanning every shadow for a trace of him. Where Von was a monument to despair, Rika was a torch of hope.
"Fate is a funny thing," Rika whispered, adjusting her gear. "It leads you to the edge of the world just to see if you’ll jump."
The Cage of Safety
As they crossed paths near the rusted gates of the inner sanctum, a voice cut through the metallic wind. It was Icky, the pint-sized, spirited leader of the Kagerasmaru. He stood defiantly beside his older sister, the legendary Queen of Thorns.
"In a way, it’s nice staying in a cage," Icky mused, looking at the high, jagged walls of the Wasteland city. "There’s nothing to worry about. You’re safe from the world."
Rika didn't even turn around. "I won't let you lock me away, Icky. I’d rather be free than safe."
The Siege of the Coal Mine
The tension was broken by a booming laugh. Shido, one of the Four Kings of the Volts, stepped forward, sparks dancing off his fingertips. "Looks like we made it here!"
He gestured toward a jagged silhouette on the horizon—an island that looked more like a tomb than a destination.
"This mission is getting a little troublesome," Shido admitted, his grin fading.
Sesshomaru, standing tall and cold as a winter moon, surveyed the landscape with a critical eye. "That island used to be a coal mine. The walls, the labyrinthine tunnels, and the unpredictable undercurrents of the void make accessing it nearly impossible."
Von’s armor let out a long, mournful hiss of steam. He looked at Rika, the girl who refused to look back. For the first time in an eternity, the man in the armor took a step forward, not out of memory, but out of purpose.
The path was set. Down into the dark, into the tunnels of the old world, the fools and the kings began their descent.
