Escaflowne: The Millennium Sorceress & The Spirit Gate
The barrier between worlds didn’t break; it dissolved like salt in water. One moment, they were in their respective homelands—a high-tech office, a dusty shop, a battlefield—the next, they were standing in the center of a sprawling, ancient ruin that hummed with a violet light.
The Unlikely Gathering
Seto Kaiba was the first to speak, his voice cutting through the silence like a blade. "I don’t care what holographic trick this is. Industrial Illusions has crossed a line." He adjusted his pristine white coat, his eyes darting toward the others with immediate suspicion.
Yugi Muto, looking significantly smaller than the CEO, clutched the Millennium Puzzle. "I don’t think this is a hologram, Kaiba. The air… it feels heavy. Like magic."
"Magic is just science we haven't monetized yet," Kaiba snapped.
Across from them, Leif of Del had his hand gripped tight around the hilt of the Belt of Deltora. He didn't recognize their strange clothes, but he recognized the look of a man who thought he was a king. "Be silent," Leif commanded, his voice honed by years of trekking through the Shadow Lands. "Something is coming through the mist."
Blades and Blood
From the shadows emerged two figures who looked far more comfortable in a wasteland. Van Fanel, King of Fanelia, stepped forward, his red cape tattered and his hand resting on his curved sword. Beside him stood Sia, her presence cold and predatory, the scent of copper and old secrets clinging to her.
"You lot don't look like soldiers," Van observed, his golden eyes narrowed. "Are you illusions sent by the Zaibach?"
"I am no one's illusion," Sia whispered. She looked at Yugi, then at the glowing stones in Leif's belt. "You carry great power. But it’s stagnant. It needs to flow."
"We are being hunted," Leif interrupted, the Topaz on his belt glowing with a sudden, frantic yellow light. "The Shadow Lord’s influence is here. I can feel the malice."
The Trial of the Ruins
The ground shook as a swarm of mechanical soldiers—a strange hybrid of Zaibach technology and Shadowland sorcery—burst from the surrounding pillars.
Van reacted instantly, his wings unfurling with a sharp snap. He took to the air, his blade carving through the lead scout.
Leif drew the Great Sword of Del, the gems on his belt pulsing in a rhythmic heartbeat that seemed to bolster the group's courage.
Sia moved like a blur, a crimson streak of efficiency. She didn't use a sword; she used the environment, her movements defying the physics Kaiba so dearly loved.
"Hmph. If it's a game they want," Kaiba muttered, sliding a card into his Duel Disk. "I’ll play." A massive, sapphire-scaled dragon materialized behind him, its roar shaking the very foundations of the ruin. "Blue-Eyes White Dragon! Eradicate them!"
Yugi followed suit, summoning the Dark Magician to provide cover for Leif and Sia. "We have to work together! Their numbers are too great!"
A Fragile Alliance
As the final mechanical soldier fell to a blast of magical energy and dragon fire, a heavy silence returned. The five of them stood in a circle, a bizarre tableau of different eras and powers.
"The gems," Van said, pointing to Leif’s belt. "They reacted when the dragon appeared. Our worlds are bleeding into each other."
Sia wiped a stray drop of blood from her cheek, her eyes fixed on the horizon where a dark tower was beginning to manifest. "This isn't just a convergence. It's a trap. Someone is feeding on the friction between our realities."
Kaiba deactivated his Duel Disk, though his expression remained defiant. "Then we find whoever is running this simulation and we shut it down. I have a company to run."
"And I have a kingdom to protect," Van added, sheathing his sword.
Leif looked at Yugi, then at the others. He saw the same spark of determination in all of them—the dragon-caller, the king, the vampire, and the hero. "Then we move together. For Deltora, and for whatever worlds you call home."
The path forward was uncertain, lit only by the glowing gems of a belt and the shimmering scales of a legendary dragon. They were strangers, bound by a rift in time, walking toward a darkness that didn't care what world they came from.
