Shido and the Guardian of Rainbow Valley: The Behemoth’s Roar

The Shadow Lands did not merely hold darkness; they held a predatory silence that seemed to swallow the very sound of footsteps. This unlikely quartet—brought together by a rift in time and space—moved through the gray haze with the wary precision of seasoned warriors.
The Company of Four
Leif of Del: The young King of Deltora, his hand never straying far from the empty steel medallions of the Belt.
Genji, the Lightning Emperor: Flickers of blue electricity danced across his fingertips, providing the only consistent light in the gloom.
Beast Master Shido: Crouched low, his eyes scanning the periphery for the scent of the Shadow Lord's abominations.
Icky (Ikki Minami): The "Invincible Babyface" hovered inches off the jagged ground on his Air Treks, the motorized wheels whirring with a soft, defiant hum.
The Ambush at the Gray Gulch
"Keep your sparks down, Sparky," Ikki hissed, popping a wheelie over a calcified ribcage. "You're making us a giant neon sign for whatever's lurking in those caves."
Genji smirked, his eyes glowing with an ethereal intensity. "If they want the lightning, I’ll give them the storm. Besides, Shido’s 'pets' are making more noise than my voltage."
Shido didn't look back. His nose twitched. "Quiet. Something is wrong. The wind... it smells like old blood and cold iron."
Suddenly, the ground erupted. Dozens of Vraal—massive, gray-skinned predators with claws like obsidian—shambled out of the mist. They were the Shadow Lord’s elite hounds, and they were hungry.
The Battle Joined
Leif drew the Belt of Deltora. "They’re guarding something! The Topaz is near—I can feel it pulsing!"
"Regalia, deploy!" Ikki shouted. He didn't wait for an invitation. He surged forward, his Air Treks carving deep grooves into the stone. He used the vertical wall of the gulch to gain momentum, launching himself into a Moonstruck Numberless Grappler. The friction of his wheels created a vacuum, pulling three Vraal into a swirling vortex of wind and kicks.
Genji stepped forward with the grace of a god. He didn't move fast; he simply was everywhere at once.
"Lightning Strike: Indra’s Net!"
Arcing bolts of pure electricity branched out from his palms, threading through the Vraal like needles through silk. The beasts disintegrated into ash before they could even scream.
Shido, meanwhile, had summoned a swarm of shadowy crows and a massive, ethereal wolf. "Hunt," he commanded. The wolf tore through the flank of the Vraal pack, its jaws snapping with the force of a hydraulic press. Shido himself moved like a blur, his strikes calculated and lethal.
The Discovery
At the center of the clearing stood a jagged obsidian spire. Embedded in the rock was a golden stone that glowed with a warm, sun-like radiance.
"The Topaz," Leif whispered. He approached the spire, but as his hand neared the gem, a psychic weight slammed into him. The Shadow Lord’s voice echoed in the cavern, a cold rasp that promised eternal despair.
Leif stumbled. "It’s... it’s showing me the ruins of Del. It’s showing me my failure..."
Ikki skated up alongside him, slapping him hard on the shoulder. "Hey, King-man! Don't listen to the static! The wind only blows forward, remember? Grab the rock and let’s get out of this dump!"
Genji placed a hand on Leif’s other shoulder, his calm energy acting as a grounding wire for the boy’s fear. "The Emperor does not fear shadows. Neither should a King."
The Belt Restored
With a surge of newfound resolve, Leif wrenched the Topaz from the obsidian. As the gem touched the first medallion of the Belt, a wave of golden light exploded outward. The gray mist of the Shadow Lands retreated, scorched away by the purity of the stone.
The Vraal turned and fled into the deeper darkness, unable to bear the light of Deltora.
"One down," Shido remarked, his summoned beasts fading back into his shadow. "Six to go."
Ikki checked the battery on his Air Treks and grinned. "Six more gems? Man, we’re gonna need a lot more speed. Try to keep up, your Majesties!"
As the group moved deeper into the heart of the enemy's territory, the Topaz shone like a steady heartbeat against Leif's waist—a golden promise that the darkness could, eventually, be broken.
